What a fantastic fortnight we have had for bats! This year we offered 4 locations to walk around and the bats didn’t disappoint putting in great appearances flying about, so we could pick up great echolocation sounds on the bat detectors.

Most of the bats were pipistrelle species, with the one exception of a brown long eared bat, but this does give us important information about the bat population across the Isle.

We think the two best highlights were – at Belton seeing the bats lit by the moonlight swoop across the field hunting for insects; and Crowle watching bats by torchlight catching huge moths right in front of our faces!
